Talk About More Than Work
Dating Tip: For connected dates, talk about more than work!
Our society rewards our accomplishments. We get “gold stars” for good grades, good schools, good jobs & making good money etc. While we can be proud of those things, they do not define us. And none of us likes to feel like we are being interviewed for the job of “life partner.”
Ruth Bader Ginsburg said that when she was interviewing, she figured if the candidate landed the interview, they had already met the qualifications, and her role was to simply figure out if she wanted to spend her days with that person or not. Rather than talk about their resume, she would talk about things she enjoyed like opera, to see if there were connections.
When you are vetting dates, go ahead and use your non-negotiable traits as a way to help you decide who to date. But ON THE DATE, please talk about more than your workplace or career. Talk about what lights you up. Ask questions and see what lights your date up. You will learn much more about them than their Linked In profile. I have a list of questions I give to my clients for great date experiences. Message me if you’d like me to send it to you!
